Computer Melt Down

August 17, 2006

Thanks to the recent recall by Dell of over 4million notebooks, a curiosity to see completely obliterated/melted electronics has come over me. Dell, of course, is not the only name to be associated with the battery malfunction, as it was the lithium-ion batteries, manufactured by Sony, prone to overheating and catching fire that sparked all of this. Melting computers and electronics is nothing new though. I remember when I was younger seeing a friends stereo, which he had left sitting sealed in his car on a hot summer day, completely deformed and almost looking fluid. This brings one thing to mind: “Oh, cool!” Here is a collection of photos I’ve put together from various places for those who react the same way:

Supposedly the following iBook still worked fine, minus the keyboard:

  1. OMFg … the last one a iMac as in .. the eMac? Looks like it .. What happend to it! Great pics!

  2. I’m not sure how that one actually caught on fire, but clearly it was annihilated. I’m assuming no one got to it and it just burned itself out.

  3. The powerbook was accidently placed in an oven…it still worked btw, if connected to an external keyboard and mouse as well as a non cracked screen…

  4. If my MacBook lights on fire, I won’t need to worry much I guess.
